T1 Providers Now Offer T1 Service Savings
How to find T1 providers that save you money every month on your T1 service needs for voice and data.

By: John Shepler

Competitive T1 providers are making it possible for smaller and medium sized businesses to get digital wireline services for a fraction of what they cost only a few years ago. Where once only the local phone company was able to run connections between business locations, now many carriers are anxiously bidding for these services.

So why the sudden interest? It's really due to shifts in both technology and regulation. Not so long ago, the only electronic communications for most businesses was the telephone. Voice communications are still critical for doing business but have been joined by equally important data communications. During this transition in technology, regulation of the telecom industry has changed to encourage competition among service providers rather than the original structure of a regulated monopoly. The result is a greater demand for digital communications lines and the opportunity for competition to provide those services.

How to Get a Better Deal From T1 Providers
T1 service is the lowest cost and most basic dedicated digital line service that comes with guaranteed availability and performance. T1 lines give you a full 1.5 Mbps, 24 telephone lines, or some combination of these. Unlike DSL, T1 bandwidth is not shared. You lease the line and have full use of it.

One thing to know about T1 lines is that there is no one "catalog" price. The price of your T1 line is based on the distance between locations for a point to point T1. Or, it's the distance from the nearest provider point of presence to your location. Another factor is what price the provider charges for transporting your data or connecting you to the Internet. Finally, there may be installation charges and perhaps an equipment charge for a router at your location.

With such variables, you really need to get quotes from several providers and compare them. Like with most purchasing decisions, the best deal is the lowest price that gives you the service you need. But, how do you make sure that you are comparing apples and apples and haven't forgot anything when you compare provider quotes?

Certainly, you can hunt through the yellow pages or on the Internet to find T1 providers and then collect quotes and compare all the fine points line by line. Sounds time consuming and it is. A more efficient approach which has only become available in the last few years is to work with a T1 service broker. A broker is an independent company that works with perhaps a dozen different T1 providers and the expert consultants to quickly find the most competitive offers for your business.

Automation and Competition Save You Money
Having a "middleman" like a broker won't cost you more, it will likely save you both time and money. The broker and agents are paid by the T1 providers. You don't get charged a commission.

We are affiliates of Telarus, a T1 service broker that holds a patent on new software to rapidly price the cost of a T1 line. This automation helps speed quotes and make it practical to consider more providers for a given service.

So why NOT get a free competitive quote for your T1 line service needs? You may need multiple phone lines for a customer service center or sales office, high speed Internet, Virtual Private Networking, enterprise level VoIP phone service, or point to point connections for audio, video or data transfers. All of these services and more are available to you with complementary consulting to make sure you get the best price for the right T1 connection.

How About Ethernet?
Carrier Ethernet directly competes with T1 and is available with both copper and fiber optic delivery. Bandwidths range from 2 or 3 Mbps on the low end up to 10 Gbps and beyond. Pricing per Mbps is more attractive than T1 lines.
