Why Miami T1 Services Prices
Have Dropped T1 voice and data lines for
business locations in the Miami area are now a fraction of the
cost they used to be.
By: John Shepler
Miami, Florida has an important role for
domestic and international business. It's strategically located
near the Southeastern tip of the United States, making it a logical
termination for voice and data traffic to the Caribbean, South
and Central America. Many important businesses are located in
Miami, including banks, cruise lines and technology companies
that serve Latin America.
Miami's key role in both domestic and international
business has fostered a buildout of competitive telecommunications
services for telephone, Internet, private data exchange and video.
Large telecom carriers have points of presence that connect to
high speed TDM and IP core networks with Gigabit to Terabit capacities.
Colocation Offers High Bandwidth at
Low Costs
These POPs offer an opportunity for equipment colocation that
enables small to large businesses to gain access to a plethora
of carrier services within a single facility. Build-out charges
are none to minimal. Colo bandwidth services are highly competitive
and generally offer the lowest cost per Mbps or Gbps available.
With colocation, companies also have the
advantage of having their IT presence in a highly secure temperature
controlled facility with backup power in case of outages that
might be caused by inclement weather... like hurricanes.
Metro and Last Mile Services Proliferate
All of this high speed bandwidth terminating in Miami is logically
deployed to the city and surrounding area by fiber optic rings
and copper last mile technology. Buildings that are already lit
for Ethernet can enjoy the lowest cost per Mbps for delivered
bandwidth without the expense of trenching in new fiber. Other
high speed connections include OC3, OC12 and OC48 SONET fiber
optic voice and data circuits.
T1 service itself is the mainstay of small
and medium size businesses. It is perfect for PBX telephone systems
using the T1 PRI protocol developed for ISDN services. Larger
call centers may opt to upgrade to DS3 or fiber optic carrier
to support hundreds or thousands of simultaneous calls.
T1 dedicated Internet is in high demand
due to its high reliability, guaranteed bandwidth and ease of
installation using existing unshielded twisted pair copper telephone
wiring. T1 voice and data services are almost universally available.
Other services such as bonded T1 for higher bandwidths, and Ethernet
over Copper for companies looking to expand their LANs off-campus,
are also available.
Why T1 Lines Are Suddenly So Cheap in
Miami
The combination of more carriers with higher and higher speed
fiber optic networks has resulted in the once-expensive basic
T1 line service dropping dramatically in price over just the
last few years. This applies to both T1 telephone and T1 dedicated
Internet service, but also to private point to point T1 connections
and T1 Integrated voice and data services.
With T1 lease contracts running 1 to 3
years, and most companies automatically renewing without being
aware of competitive developments, a lot of telecom and IT managers
are shocked to discover both the number of carrier offerings
and their service prices.
How About Ethernet?
Carrier Ethernet directly competes with T1 and is available with both copper and fiber optic delivery. Bandwidths range from 2 or 3 Mbps on the low end up to 10 Gbps and beyond. Pricing per Mbps is more attractive than T1 lines.
